Extractions

Reasons For Extracting Teeth

Severely decayed.

Advanced periodontal disease ("gum disease").

Fractured tooth that is non-restorable.

Teeth that are positioned in the mouth inappropriately (e.g. impacted wisdom teeth).

Orthodontic (braces) purposes to make space to reposition teeth.

What Happens After A Tooth Is Extracted

After a tooth is extracted neighbouring teeth may shift into the open space. This may cause problems with your chewing ability or your bite (which may lead to jaw discomfort). The risk of periodontal (gum) disease and decay increases because of the position of the shifted tooth (the tooth becomes more difficult to clean).
